I dreamed I was in a fog and in the fog I saw an unusual little creature as I came closer to it; it became more familiar but odd. It was a turtle but the odd part about it is that it had no head and it was wandering around running into everything. It had scars all along its hard shell from running into various objects. It would run into something like a tree are a rock and be pushing trying to keep going then eventually he would stop and back up a step or two then go around it until it ran into some other object and the process would start over again. I thought this very strange I walked up to the turtle and picked it up and examined it and sure enough the turtle shell on the front was completely sealed shut to opening at all for a head to pop out I placed it back down on the earth and off he went bashing into everything in its path wandering around aimlessly. I watched in amusement for awhile then went about my own business but from time to time kept contemplating the matter of the headless turtle and its meaning. Not too far off in the distance I came upon an old man sitting on a old wooden spool smoking tobacco the closer I approached him I recognized him as my own great grandfather. I ran to him as he had made his journey many years passed. I sat at his feet and said pawpaw (as that is what I used to call him) how are you after all these years? He said fine as he called me by name. Funny thing I would go over to his house and he would sit on this old wooden spool and smoke tobacco and tell me stories when I was a little boy. Now here we where again, do you have any stories for me today? I asked him. Sure boy, and he started. Long ago there was a place called turtle island a place all our ancestors had came to many years ago and made their home. They lived mostly happy lives and sometimes they fought one another and they where a divided people and then they would be good and live happy again this went on for many years then one day some new people came as was told to them by one of their elders many years before. They saw the new people with a pale skin similar to some of their passed brothers come and start build odd houses and brought with them odd animals that they did not have to hunt. These pale people grew and grew and pushed them around and eventually took their lands and started a new place gave it a new name America and the United States they made new laws and said everyone had liberty and freedom to do as they wanted as long as they obeyed the laws. These people too liked to fight and they fought many battles on what we called turtle island and also across the waters in strange lands they fought horrific battles. As I sat there I noticed many of the my forest brothers and sisters the animals came and sat and listened to the story the deer, the wolf, the bear, the fox, the eagle, the owl, the otter, the raccoon, and many others pawpaw had a big gathering. He continued, these pale skinned ones became very powerful people among the nations over the earth, but they became very greedy also eventually they became more corrupt than any people that ever lived on the earth. Grandson the turtle you saw that turtle will roam the earth as long as turtle island is acting like that turtle headless roaming aimlessly about getting into everything and not caring what happens to it. Our people need to realize this is the time to unite and be one with all the native nations upon turtle island and work together to free ourselves of the shame the pale skinned people have brought upon our land. Your generations can bring honor back to our land just as our elders long ago predicted we have a royal blood and your generations have been chosen at this time to bring honor to the people. Go forth and teach them the message you know to be true remind them of their ancestors and their covenants our people made with the Creator when he gave us this great turtle island. Then I woke up.

Thanksgiving Gumbo

 Yesterday was not a typical Thanksgiving. My wife had just had gall bladder surgery earlier in the week, then her father had a small stroke and possible TIAs from this past weekend until Tuesday in the AM. That is a long story in it self. So if you notice anyone especially your loved one slurring there speech, stumbling, losing use of a limb, c/o blurred vision, not being able to answer general questions they should know the answers to immediately force them against their will into the car and take them to the ER STAT!!! So anyways I was the cook and for some reason no one wanted a traditional T-Day meal. So cut up the turkey, some venison sausage, First made the roux, chopped up some onion, celery and bell pepper, sauteed with the roux. Then dumped into stock pot and added 4 quarts water brought to boil added the meat. a few more "secret" family seasonings and simmered for 1 hour. As it simmered put on a pot of rice and the night before made a potato salad, a few pies. When all said and done everyone was stuffed and happy. All in all I am thankful for my country and the freedoms that are trying to be taken away from us. I am not thankful for alot of the things that happened to my people as I have said before I am part native american. I learned to make gumbo form my MawMaw and her GGGrandmother was 1/2 Cajun 1/2 Karankawa (a now extinct tribe that lived along the gulf coast from Texas to Louisiana) they where all murdered off and now any of us that claim any blood have no say because they "government" says the tribe no longer exist. My Cherokee/Choctaw ancestors had all their lands stolen and too many died on a forced march to their "new" home. And my Cajun ancestors had been treated bad as well their entire existence that is why they stayed in the swamps figured no one would come their to kick them out. So no I am not Thankful for how they where all treated but I am Thankful how they continued to survive and make something out of the nothing they was given. Because we should never ask a government to give us anything. We should all work to get what we get. And shuldn't be forced to give away what we earned to someone who doesn't even try. But give out of our on hearts if we see it that way. But to help those that need help to get back on there feet and make something anything of there lives. It will be a continuous battle from here on out to try an maintain a symblance of the freedom this country once new. The most freedoms this country ever had before the europeans ever came would be ideal. But I know that will never be seen again. I just remember the story of the two wolves I believe I have posted earlier here. And just try to feed the good wolf so I can be good!

I continue to do the things that I have always done. I myself am a Latter Day Saint and didn't want to vote for Romney but did because I knew we would be in for a ride I don't really want to go on. If the alternative was re elected. But I manned up and voted for him anyway. I tried to get co workers and friends to do the same, some did vote, others didn't. I told them I was ashamed that they allowed Obama to be re elected. Now as I continue to live my life and prepare to for a future that is even though still unforseeable but knowing the consequences of this election, that trouble is brewing on the horizon. I, as a student of history, look as the posted flag above. The original Flag of the Republic of Texas. And I see that there could be hope, although there would definitely be some sort of retaliation from the Federal government. But hope that as my GGGGG adopted uncle Sam Houston "Raven" once said "Texas will again lift its head and stand among the nations. It ought to do so, for no country upon the globe can compare with it in natural advantages." he also stated "Texas has yet to learn submission to any oppression, come from what source it may." And to that I quote the Preamble to the Declaration of Independence,
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.


So to all those who say Texas can't secede, I say this our Founding Fathers wrote it into the Declaration of Independence that we have a right to do so. We are now fighting the very same battles they did. They where considered traitors to the crown. If we oppose the things this tyrant that has just been re elected passes down then we will considered traitors also. Colonel William B. Travis stood in a mission in San Antonio de Bexar and drew a line in the sand when the time came to decide who would sacrifice to buy time For General Sam Houston. I say we should all draw a line in the sand this very day, that when the time comes we have already made our decision. That we will keep a true Republic and not this socialist democracy that our country has turned into. That we start over here in Texas and that Texas will again lift its head and rise among the nations. I know the true patrioitism in every Texicans heart that they will proudly stand, fight and die to keep Texas a FREE REPUBLIC and that we will have our LIBERTY again! And when the time comes we will shout, Not only REMEMBER THE ALAMO!, REMEMBER GOLIAD! but we will add REMEMBER BENGHAZI!,REMEMBER ISRAEL!, WE FIGHT FOR OUR FAMILIES, OUR HOMES, and OUR GOD!

I urge everyone who reads this to pass it along to their friends and family and make a decision now!

I am a man that doesn't really know fear, or atleast I didn't think I knew fear. I have had many experiences staring danger in the eye, some of those have been life threatening to myself. But it wasn't until today that I finally thought I could be scared. I have a daughter over 1500 miles away at college, and will soon in a few weeks have a son going into another country for 2 years to do missionary work. These children are just barely adults, they do have good heads on their shoulders and I am very proud of the decisions that they have made in their respective lives. I hope that they will continue to put God first in their lives, my fear comes from the realization that I know things will most likely get crazy in this country and also the world in not too long of a time. I mean just alone from our countries leaders and the decisions that they make without even consulting the people who put them in office leads me to this conclusion. But also the many other factors stemming from their actions. This fear is that when this all goes down that they will be out there somewhere alone, and daddy will not be there to watch over and protect them from the evils that are and will be lurking around the corner. I have taught and continue to teach them about being prepared the most important thing I learned as a boy scout. Teaching them to be aware and watch how those around them react and possibly change when something bad goes down. I know they have some friends and the things I have taught them but I also know they will have a hard time to bug anywhere. I know my first priority is to get my wife and other 2 children to to safety and the necessary means to survive. But the distances the older 2 will be away and how they will manage is my fear. I am already preparing a rescue effort to go and retrieve them from their respective locations. I have the means and know how, it is just the fuel that bothers me the most. And I have good hands to leave my wife and other children in to go and collect these 2 young adults. Although it may be necessary to have us all travel together to make the collection effort. I am also working on a bug out location at a half way point and maybe even nearer to them to make this actually more conceivable to bug to for a short time.Stocking some supplies to hold out until I know for sure I can get back to our larger family location where there will be more supplies and protection. So yes I will look fear in the face, but will have to decided now to show no fear to be able to win this final battle over fear.

Another view of bone point

A bone point, more native cultures used bone to make arrow points, dart points, knife blades especially if they couldn't get any chert or flint. They would bust up the long bones and using sand stone or such file the bone into the desired point. Heating the bone also hardened and allowed the sharp edge to remain sharp. Many of these techniques I am sure came about buy trial and error but they did work because we are here today.

Collection of recent bird points and blades, will start working the river change this next week into suitable lengths for arrows and atlatl darts and will make some handles for the blades also will be finishing some atlatls soon and posting pictures as well. Hope to have enough primitive weapons completed for a local Christmas festival market to offer for sale as gifts. Also hopefully will be able to go to some knapins or rendezvous to sale some of these items also. Some will be Christmas gifts as or family only swaps homemade gifts.

An obsidian blade hafted to a deer leg bone with sinew, partial deer jaw bone in background to possibly be  used as a handle for a future stone knife. These are the types of tools I enjoy making and using. I do have conventional tools/weapons, but if the need arises, I don't have to rely on them to get a task done. Of course it is alot more work at times but this obsidian has a surgically sharp edge that will skin an animal faster than most conventional tools will. Alas you do have to be careful you don't take a finger when you are cutting. I find that my proficiency has beome greater at hunting and taking game since learning to use primitive methods, and enjoy the experience a lot more than using conventional tools and means. It makes me feel like I am giving my prey more of a chance to get away and being more in tune with nature and my surroundings. Hence I feel I am able to survive better because I am paying more and better attention to my surroundings.

This story was first recorded by James Mooney who lived with the Cherokee in the late 1800’s and collected many of the Cherokee children's stories from the elders and old medicine men.  This story is named “The Rabbit and the Tar Wolf.” If you have ever read or heard of "Uncle Remus" this story may sound similar since it is attributed to being passed along from slaves owned by the Cherokee. I am posting this story because one part of survival is your surroundings. If we are familiar with our surroundings then the "thicket" where others are not familiar will be the best place to hold out at times.

“Once upon a time there was such a severe drought that all streams of water and all lakes were dried up. In this emergency the beasts assembled together to devise means to procure water. It was proposed by one to dig a well. All agreed to do so except the hare. She refused because it would soil her tiny paws. The rest, however, dug their well and were fortunate enough to find water. The hare beginning to suffer and thirst, and having no right to the well, was thrown upon her wits to procure water. She determined, as the easiest way, to steal from the public well. The rest of the animals, surprised to find that the hare was so well supplied with water, asked her where she got it. She replied that she arose betimes in the morning and gathered the dewdrops. However the wolf and the fox suspected her of theft and hit on the following plan to detect her: They made a wolf of tar and placed it near the well.
“On the following night the hare came as usual after her supply of water. On seeing the tar wolf she demanded who was there. Receiving no answer she repeated the demand, threatening to kick the wolf if he did not reply. She receiving no reply kicked the wolf, and by this means adhered to the tar and was caught. When the fox and wolf got hold of her the consulted what it was best to do with her. One proposed cutting her head off. This the hare protested would be useless, as it had often been tried without hurting her. Other methods were proposed for dispatching her, all of which she said would be useless. At last it was proposed to let her loose to perish in a thicket. Upon this the hare affected great uneasiness and pleaded hard for life. Her enemies, however, refused to listen and she was accordingly let loose. As soon, however, as she was out of reach of her enemies she gave a whoop, and bounding away she exclaimed: 'This is where I live.'"

East Texas is finally getting rain hopefully it will not be like last year! This time last year you could walk out and the grass would crunch under your feet. So far this week alone we've got at least 5 inches of rain. I have been waiting for the rain to stop so I can go and cut some river cane. I am in need of making some arrows for bows and atlatls. I have some hunting points ready for some arrows. So hopefully soon I will have some cane dried out and post some pictures of the finished products. I will have my boys working on them too, so that they can learn how their ancestors made them and they will hunt with later this year and hopefully they will be able to take some game also.

Happy Independence Day! America! What is left of it! Those dirty, greedy politicians are slowly taking our freedoms and liberties away bit by bit. Yes go ahead and tag me a REBEL! Right now I pay over $10,000 a year in health insurance for my family, but now that I am being forced to and you know the rates will all start to multiply like rabbits I will take my 1% penalty tax and not worry about it. On my income that would only be $367.00 a year. And since the insurance companies will have to take you even with pre existing problems if something major comes along I will stop by the old insurance agent on the way to the doctors get insurance to keep the bills down then after everythings cured and ok drop the insurance and pay the penalty again. I think that looks like a great plan to me. I will come out way ahead. Now if they want to force my employer to give me a big raise to pay for the insurance increases I guess that might work also the only problem is the company would then be crying bail us out you created the healthcare law and we can't afford to pay otr emplyees more thus the continued sinking ship. Our economy is shot there is no pulling it out, we are in for a long hard rough ride so fasten your life vest and learn to tread water because there are not enough life boats for everyone only the rich that have bought there way aboard. The rest of us had better have an alternate plan because not too long after will be complete civil unrest with police, or military to protect the innocent. The innocent will either have to band together or you are on your on. The empire is falling and its best we stay as far as possible out of the way and pick up with whats left over. In the mean time have  great holiday and thank those who selflessly sacrificed for others to make it possible!

Finally after 6 months I finally feel comfortable enough to tell about a hunting accident that happened to me on opening day Nov. 2011. My son and I where stalking some deer in the national forest and we didn't have any doe tags so we could only bag a buck. Well we had came to a small clearing with about 5-6 deer about 60-70 yards away and it was somewhat foggy. I was shooting a 1942 303 british infantry rifle that had been modified in the 1960s with a monte carlo stock and a cut down barrel. Its a fine shooting rifle. It was given to me by a close friend of the family on his dying bed. I keep the gun cleaned and polished and I am extremely a real gun safety freak. Well I bolted a round in the chamber and looked through the scope to see if I could spot a buck, I didn't. So I eased the gun down assured the safety was on and held it hanging parrell to my rt. leg barrel pointing down. My son had heard something coming up behind us so he had turned to take a look and then I heard the report of a rifle. I said did you shoot if not that was awful close. He said no and looked down and excitedly stated. "hey dad you OK!" I said yeah why, he answered "your foot is smoking" I then looked down and realized the gun I was holding had somehow fired off the round I was holding the gun in the curvature behind the trigger guard and my finger was nowhere near the trigger. I looked at the safety and it was still on. I looked at my foot again and I could see a black hole through my boot about 2" in diameter about 2" from the end of my foot. I tried to move my toes in my boot but couldn't feel my big toe, I picked up my foot and looked at bottom of boot and a small 1/2" diameter exit hole with a small amount of blood on it. I am an eagle scout and always carry a first aid kit so I open my small backpack and my helped me tie a bandage around my boot and I told him we'd better head for the truck. I also always carry a pedometer because I like to measure the distances that I track deer to see how far they are moving. at about 1/2 mile I started feeling a little pressure to my foot. My son I think was the one in shock. He looked really pale, so I started telling jokes to make light of everything so it would ease his tension. We finally made it to the truck at 1mile and 1/10. We loaded our gear in the truck. He was only 13 at the time and has driven much and I asked him if he felt like driving he said no, I think he was still a little in shock, So I climbed into the drivers seat and using the side of my rt .foot to push the throttle we where off by now it was starting to smart some. I grabbed my cell phone but could get no signal in the area we where at and had to drive about 6 miles before I did get a signal. I tried calling my wife but her phone just rang. So I called her folks but theres just rang also. So I called mine, my mom answered and I told her notto panic when I told her what I was about to tell her but if she could try to get my wife on the phone and have her meet me at the hospital. She said she would and I had to drive about, 24 more miles to get to the local ER. By this time my foot was soaking the bandage and my son was still not sure of himself. He did help me out of the truck and into the ER. I told the registration clerk what had happened and they immediately went to work. They had to cut my favorite boots off of my foot and to my surprise my big toe was still intact. I did have a massive gunshot wound thru the joint of my big toe and foot I was then rushed into surgery and the wound was cleaned and closed. My wife chewed me out for using an old ancient relic of a gun. By the way the firing pin was very worn from bigging such an old gun that the gunsmith told me any slight bump could have made it go off. So now I am all healed and will always walk with a slight limp the rest of my life butthe lesson I learned and most important is to always be prepared, mentally, physically and emotionally. I am always working scenarios out in my head, I am always learning new skills, so I can be assertive, I have good medical training, and I usually try to be tough thru small little accidents, bumps and bruises which I think gives me a hi tolerance to pain. I feel if we train ourselves, learning skills, testing ourselves, etc we are preparing ourselves everyday to not panic in bad situations. I think this taught my son a lesson also to be more prepared. He was a little not so sure, but I tried to be the one to make it all seem alright to help him. If we are sure of our selves and assertive in our quick thinking abilities then we have nothing to worry about. This is a true paleo survival skill. Making due with what your surroundings provide to get thru. I know I will continue to work to be a survivor striving to succeed and go forward no matter what life throw in my way.
